I went to the American Consulate on University Ave. here in Toronto today, and voted. I don’t think I have to be explicit about whom I had for, but suffice it to say that I felt that my voice had to be heard regardless of wether or not the result will a landslide for one side.

I was actually surprised to see that the consulate was actually very empty. For most of my time there, I was actually the only one in the make-shift voting area. I suppose I must not expect everybody to be as lazy as I am, and leave their absentee voting to THE day before the actual election. As it is, despite my extremely early work schedule, I was only able to arrive with little more than an hour before closing time (especially since I had to go to the nearby branch of my bank and drop off my cell phone and bag due to the consulate’s strict no electronics rule). I know that my vote won’t count towards the results that will be an inescapable force of media power tomorrow, but I did not want to look back at this, the “most important election of our generation” and not know that I was a part of it.

On the home front, we were joined this weekend by two of my paternal aunts (3amtos), who brought a lot of energy into the household. The prior weekend, we were joined by our other, older aunt and her husband, who had come in from just across the border in Michigan. This timing was no coincidence, however, as all my father’s sisters thought this would be a good time to come visit with their older brother. My father is, of course, appreciative of this, although this late into his radiation treatments he does find himself experiencing some rawness in his mouth. We are all praying for him, and the end of the treatments in two weeks. Anyway, our two 3amtos are still around us, and will stay for the rest of the week. I know my Mama appreciates the ability to have a little girl-talk around the house that does not involve her schoolwork.

That’s it for now. See you.
